More Fun in San Fran

The following morning we headed to Alcatraz. I enjoyed seeing this loaf of bread in the window on the way to the ferry.

I was impressed by the tours efficiency, we were each given an audio player which instructed us where to go and when, and told us about each part of the prison and events that had occurred (for example escape attempts).

This is the view of the city from Alcatraz. The audio included voice overs from ex-inmates about being so close to the city and yet so far away, and being able to hear sounds of people laughing and enjoying themselves drifting across the water on new years eve.

After returning to the city I walked up this hill (and the picture wasn't even taken from the top) to check out the crookest street (a zig zag street because the hill is too steep for vehicles).

From there I took the cable car, which is quite impressive. Some of you will know this but for those that don't, a cable runs under the ground at 9.5 mph and the driver uses the cable car grips to grab the cable to go, and releases the grips to stop. It requires extraordinary strength, and only one women has ever managed to qualify and become a driver in San Francisco.

From San Fran we headed down the Cali coast. Did you know that the population of California is 37.7m? Canada's is 34m.
